The therapeutic expansion and application of Treg cells have been widely utilized in the treatment of <b data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"204\">autoimmune diseases<\/b> and various <b data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"236\">inflammatory disorders<\/b>.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Licorice<\/b> has been a commonly used medicinal herb for over 1,000 years. While extensive evidence supports its properties as an <b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"126\">immunomodulator<\/b>, the specific mechanisms governing the induction and functional activation of Treg cells by licorice were previously not well understood. Consequently, this research focused on investigating the processes through which licorice stimulates Treg cell induction and function.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8f7b728 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"8f7b728\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wincellresearch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Wincell-Research-6.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-1228\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wincellresearch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Wincell-Research-6.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.wincellresearch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Wincell-Research-6-300x120.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.wincellresearch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Wincell-Research-6-768x307.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4af7052 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4af7052\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">The study revealed that licorice exerts its inductive and functional effects on Treg cells through two primary active compounds: <b data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"129\">isoliquiritigenin<\/b> and <b data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"151\">naringenin<\/b>. The research found that:<\/p><ul data-path-to-node=\"6\"><li><p data-path-to-node=\"6,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"6,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Naringenin<\/b> stimulates Treg cells by acting as an <b data-path-to-node=\"6,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"49\">AhR (aryl hydrocarbon receptor) agonist<\/b>.<\/p><\/li><li><p data-path-to-node=\"6,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"6,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Isoliquiritigenin<\/b> stimulates Treg cells through a mechanism distinct from naringenin. Specifically, it was found to reduce <b data-path-to-node=\"6,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"123\">mTOR signaling activity<\/b>. The mTOR pathway is a critical regulatory mechanism controlling the differentiation and growth of both Th cells and Treg cells.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">In Vivo Studies on Colitis:<\/b> Colitis, a condition within the spectrum of <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"72\">Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)<\/b>, results from inflammatory disorders combined with <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"156\">mucosal immune regulatory defects<\/b>. In this study, animal models with colitis were administered either isoliquiritigenin, naringenin, or water daily for two weeks. The results demonstrated that the groups treated with isoliquiritigenin or naringenin showed a significant increase in Treg cell populations. Therefore, this study suggests that both compounds have the potential to be developed as pharmaceutical agents for treating colitis, autoimmune diseases, and other inflammatory conditions, including <b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"349\">Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)<\/b>, <b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"383\">Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)<\/b>, and <b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"414\">Multiple Sclerosis (MS)<\/b>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play an indispensable role in maintaining immunological homeostasis.
